General
Authority: The Indiana Guard Reserve is the State Defense
Force for the State of Indiana and, as such, has no formal
Federal affiliation. The Indiana Guard Reserve serves under
the exclusive authority of the Governor of the State of Indiana
through his executive agent for military matters, The Adjutant
General of Indiana. The IGR is a unique military organization
designed to provide military support for the State of Indiana
when units of the Indiana Army National Guard are activated
for federal service outside the State of Indiana. When the
Indiana Army National Guard enters upon active federal service
and departs Indiana the Indiana Guard Reserve remains in Indiana
becomes the Governor's military force. The Indiana Guard Reserve
could be assigned missions of providing custodial management
of armories, security for armories and possibly other state
properties, and support to civilian authorities in natural
disasters and other state emergencies.

Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment
The Indiana Guard Reserve Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment
is located at 2002 South Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana
46241-4839. The IGR is composed of patriotic citizen soldiers
similar to the citizen soldiers who have served our nation
and state so effectively since the Revolutionary War and are
still serving in an important role for the benefit and well-being
of their nation, state, and local communities. HHD members
are citizens of Indiana between the ages 18-65, composed of
men and women who are prior service, non-prior service, retired
military, some retired from civilian employment.
