IGR Performs Critical Role at Mini-Marathon

| IGR Soldiers cleared a path for medical personnel helping a distressed runner. |
Hot weather kept Indiana Guard Reserve Soldiers busy during the 2012 Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Guard
Reservists helped several runners who were overcome by the heat during the 36th annual race. More than 200
Mini-Marathon participants had to be treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration. The IGR provided water for some of those
in need, called medics for further assistance and cleared the streets for emergency personnel. More than 30-thousand runners
and walkers hit the streets of the 13.1 mile course despite warmer than average temperatures in the 70s. Hundreds
of IGR Soldiers patrolled the area looking for distressed participants. They also blocked off busy streets, keeping the
runners, walkers and spectators safe. The IGR was joined by dozens of members of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and students
from the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy.
